Concrete Planter Buying Guide

By KANTE

Choose a planter by checking the space it will occupy, the opening your plant needs, and how many pieces the listing includes. Then compare material, drainage and finish. A 24-inch height and an 18-inch diameter describe different measurements, so the largest number in a product name is only a starting point.

This guide helps you compare the current KANTE collection and make a short list before opening the exact retailer listing.

Model example: the 21.7-inch Tall Round Concrete Planter in Weathered Concrete. Plants and scene accessories are not included.

1. Choose the right material

Start with the material listed for the model. Color and a stone-like finish do not tell you what a planter is made from. For more on concrete finishes and proportions, read our concrete planter design and materials guide.

Compare material, listed weight where available, included parts and your intended setup together. Follow the instructions for the particular construction you choose.

2. Separate outside size from planting space

Record three measurements before choosing a model:

  • Outside height: how high the planter sits beside the door, furniture or railing.
  • Outside width or diameter: the floor space occupied by its widest point.
  • Planting opening and usable interior: the space available for your plant or its existing nursery pot.

For example, the 21.7-inch Tall Round Concrete Planter is listed at 15.9 inches deep by 15.9 inches wide by 21.7 inches high, with a separate 13.7-inch top opening. The opening alone does not establish whether a nursery pot fits farther down inside; compare the pot’s width and depth with the dimensions provided for the model. Ask Support if a measurement you need is missing.

3. Check the footprint and choose a shape

Mark the planter’s outside dimensions on the floor with a temporary outline. Open the nearby door fully, pull out a patio chair and walk the usual route. Include the plant’s expected spread and leave access for watering and drainage.

The 19.9-inch Dark Gray Concrete Planter has a listed outside size of 8.7 by 8.7 inches, while the 18-inch Concrete Bowl Planter is described by its diameter. Height and diameter are different ways of describing size.

Compare round concrete planters with square concrete planters after checking the available footprint. Shape can guide the look of an arrangement; the labeled measurements determine the space it needs.

For a step-by-step check of the footprint, opening and interior space, read How to Measure for Round or Square Planters.

4. Compare finishes using the exact product

Compare the finish on the exact model you plan to order. White can provide contrast against dark siding or paving; Weathered Concrete can sit alongside textured stone or wood; Dark Gray can connect to dark window frames or furniture.

The 24-inch Tall Concrete Planter in White is one option for a light finish. Look at its product photographs in addition to styled scenes. Lighting and screens affect color, and concrete can show the slight surface and dimensional variation described in the supplied guidance.

5. Confirm drainage and the number of planters

Read the included quantity before planning a pair or group. The five concrete models shown below each list one planter. The black plastic product is a set of two. Ordering one single-planter listing will not supply a pair, even when the scene photograph shows two.

The concrete examples list a drainage opening and rubber plug. The plastic set uses removable inner nursery pots with drainage openings. Check the arrangement for the exact model and decide how excess water will be managed at the chosen location.

Plants, furniture and other styling accessories are not included unless the listing explicitly says so. Review drainage and indoor surface protection before planting.

6. Check the details before ordering

Before leaving for the retailer, make a note of the model, material, selected finish, outside dimensions, opening and included quantity. Compare that note with the retailer’s selected variant before placing the order.

The Weathered Concrete Bowl Planter and 18-inch Weathered Concrete Bowl Planter have separate model references. Their similar finish is not a model match.

Open a product card below for its retailer link, or use Where to Buy for the platform directory. Current price, availability, delivery and purchasing terms are provided by the retailer. Keep your order confirmation for future support. Once you have a short list, use the styling guide to plan its placement.

Common questions

Are all KANTE planters concrete?

No. Concrete is central to this collection, while the black 13-inch set of two shown here is plastic. Check the Material field on the specific product page rather than relying on color or shape.

Does a size in the product name describe the planting opening?

Not necessarily. It may describe height or overall diameter. Read the labeled measurements. For the 21.7-inch round bullet model, 21.7 inches is height and the top opening is listed separately at 13.7 inches.

Does a picture of several planters mean they come as a set?

No. Check the included quantity. The five concrete examples here are single planters; the black plastic example is a set of two. Plants and other scene accessories should not be assumed to be included.

Can a concrete bowl planter be used as a fire pit?

No. These planters are for planting use only. Do not use them as a fire pit, fire bowl or fireplace, or expose them to open flames or high heat. Read the care and safety information before use.
